New Year, New Career

Time for Change

Now that 2019 is here, a lot of us will be re-evaluating our lives, relationships, finances and job roles. Changing your job is statistically proven to be one of the most stressful times of your life and Venatu Recruitment Group would therefore like to help you change your job with peace of mind.

Our research tells us that the average worker resigns 3-4 times during a lifetime, the stress this induces can be as bad as divorce / moving house / financial worries or major illness!

We would advise that you focus on the areas you can control, you cant magic the perfect job but you can make your CV and cover letter as strong as possible, you can also research and communicate personally with the companies / agencies you wish to work with. Always investigate new opportunities while you’re still employed if possible, we may be pointing out the obvious however it is a lot easier and less stressful to find a job whilst you have one, it also prevents you from making a hasty and panicked decision.

Adapt your CV as many times as you need to, make sure you sound appealing and related to the individual job requirements you are applying for. Highlight the key skills that may be relevant to the industry or employer you wish to work for and keep it simple.

Think about…

  • The 3 significant work achievements that you are most proud of and what you would like to achieve going forward?
  • What are you currently earning and what would you like to earn going forward? What is the minimum salary you would move for?
  • How flexible are you on location? Traffic is an inevitable factor in our lives now therefore be realistic about the commute.
  • If an opportunity presented that ticked all of your boxes, what would that look like?

Social Media

Have a clean-up of your social media accounts, we are now living in an age where our every move can be documented online and employers and recruiters do look at information available online to build a character profile. If you’ve applied for a corporate role and you’re ranting and swearing 3 times a day on your Facebook then take into serious consideration the message you are portraying to your potential employer. At the very least, if you don’t wish to delete your rants / expletive images - make them as private as possible!

Lastly…

Ensure you are not motivated only by salary increase, money really isn’t everything if you don’t feel fulfilled in the work you are doing every day until the day you retire. Look at all the benefits the role and the organisation has to offer you, this is a personal decision that only you can make. Take your time and make it wisely.
