Venatu Recruitment Group are supporting our client, a leading name in the power, civil engineering and construction industry who specialise in infrastructure projects for National Grid and the Environment Agency. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Estimator to join their team.
Job Duties:
- Gather First-Hand Information: Collect information from internal departments and external suppliers to produce accurate costing information.
- Prepare Work Estimates: Understand project requirements and prepare work estimates by gathering proposals, blueprints, and specifications.
- Material Take Offs: Create accurate material take-offs manually and by utilizing Excel software packages.
- Present Tender Proposals: Present tender proposals to the Sales and Contracts team for review and approval.
- Determine Cost Variables: Identify key variables for cost estimates by analysing labour, material, and time requirements.
- Resolve Discrepancies: Analyse and resolve discrepancies in cost estimates.
- Build Supplier Relationships: Maintain relationships with key suppliers and review offers and quotes from subcontractors or suppliers.
- Present Estimates: Present prepared estimates to relevant stakeholders.
- Follow-Up: Follow up with clients for feedback on tender submissions.
- Handover Meeting: Set up and present handover meetings to the Contracts team upon tender award.
- Special Reports: Prepare special reports by analysing information and trends.
- Maintain Cost Database: Ensure the cost database is updated with new suppliers and prices.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with technical knowledge by attending meetings and reviewing publications.
- Team Collaboration: Contribute to team efforts and participate in team meetings.
- Support Manager: Assist the Estimating Manager with preparation of pre-qualifications and pre-bid submissions.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Detailed knowledge and experience in the construction industry and / or civil engineering or utility sectors.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in estimating within the industry, with the ability to interpret working construction drawings.
- Ability to undertake technical and financial calculations.
- Excellent project planning and organizational skills.
- Strong business acumen and analytical financial skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft packages and IT skills.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management.
- Awareness of building, contract, and health and safety regulations.
