Rail Mechanical Engineering Fitters

  • Friday 6am - 12 Midday
  • Afters
  • Monday to Thursday 2.15pm - 10.30pm
  • Friday Midday - 6pm


  • Reporting to a Section Leader and a Production Co-ordinator, this role involves:
  • Dismantling and Refurbishment of Rail Bogies
  • Undertaking the light overhaul of associated rail components;
  • Working in line with specification and customer requirements;
  • Responsible for signing for work undertaken, upon completion of each task;
  • Use of overhead cranes to load and unload transport, and move around production, parts, frames and bogies of up to 20 tons in weight;
  • Use of workshop plant and equipment;
  • Use of a range of tooling appropriate to each task;
  • Working to, and achieving, set targets;
  • Maintain and improving the quality of the product undergoing overhaul;
  • Accurate completion of production and quality documentation;
  • Engaging in Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Other duties as required.


  • Experience of working in a production engineering environment, overhauling mechanical parts and components (e.g. HGV, bus, rail, aerospace and power industries)
  • Recognised Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship/ Qualification in Engineering, Automotive or Plumbing
  • Competent in the use of English, Mathematics and IT;
  • Have the ability to work to targets and deadlines;
  • Experience using power and hand tools such as impact wrenches and torque wrenches;
  • Understanding and awareness of Health and Safety, and safe working practices.


  • Rail industry overhaul / engineering experience;
  • Participation in, and implementation of, continuous improvements using the associated tools and techniques;
  • Experience of using measuring equipment;
  • Experience of industrial painting
  • Experience shot blasting both small and large components


  • Have the willingness to learn
