Workshop Manager

  • To manage P&L / KPI’s, Direct and Indirect Costs, Productivity & Compliance objectives
  • To ensure legislative requirements, Group Health and Safety and Safe Systems of Work are adhered to within the Workshop operation
  • Responsible for the recruitment of Workshop team members i.e. Workshop Supervisors, Technicians & Administration
  • Undertake departmental/resource planning and delivery against these plans
  • Provide the required operational information and to ensure that departmental systems/reports are maintained
  • Deal with any disciplinary/grievance matters in line with Company procedures
  • Plan and manage resources in-line with set budgets, whilst considering priorities of the customer & Workshop operations
  • To communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Build rapport, develop trust and respect from both internal and external customers
  • Provide daily/weekly operational reports and status updates and review as required
  • Manage through others by setting targets, objectively measuring performance, providing regular feedback and coaching
  • Motivate and develop staff to achieve team goals with a view to career progression and succession planning
  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement of processes/methods and operating practices


  • Confident in dealing with staff and customers at all levels within the operation
  • Sound knowledge of H&S and Compliance
  • Able to deliver a high standard of performance working to targets whilst working under pressure
  • Able to provide job training, coaching and development for other technicians and apprentices
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal with a varied nature and volume of telephone calls
  • Ability to influence and gain the trust of a compact team, whilst providing flexibility, reliability and providing adhoc cover if required
  • Sound knowledge of the HGV environment, who will be expected to maintain a level of productivity, through a recognised formal training program
  • Computer and IT literate
