How did you get into recruitment? - Kristy Goulding

Kristy Goulding - Regional Manager for Scunthorpe, Mansfield and Doncaster working within the Industrial Division

A small-town girl (more a woman now) from Scunthorpe, had decided the only way out of my hometown was to go to university, so that’s exactly what I did. Whilst studying. I undertook several part time roles. All the skills gained in these roles were, interacting with people from every walk of life, communication, or the ‘gift of the gab’ as my mum would say. These skills are what gained me my first role in recruitment.

This happened purely by accident. I had signed up for temporary work with an agency in Leeds. After my month contract was complete, I was asked if I fancied working for the agency. After two interviews and a test, I was offered the role. I immediately started work for the Commercial Perm team, it’s crazy to think that was 20 years ago! Over the years I have worked for several different agencies, specialising in permanent and temporary recruitment, within commercial, legal accountancy. I later fell into industrial recruitment, this involved working with a range of clients for permanent opportunities with manufacturing, packaging and food production covering a range of roles.

I have been incredibly lucky to have learnt lots of recruitment lessons along the way from many colleagues, clients, and candidates, although it always truly comes down to collaborating with people. Communication is my key skill, and it might sound corny nut listening to clients and candidates’ needs is a priority to me.

I joined Venatu mid pandemic in November 2020 and I must be honest it was daunting setting up a new office from scratch on my own. Even though, I never felt alone as I always had exceptional support from my directors and the whole back-office team. We quickly grew and I was able to recruit more people, by November 2021 I had a team of three working with me. Fast forward to April 2022, I have been promoted to Regional Manager for the Lincolnshire area and are now opening an office in Grimsby and Lincoln will follow later this year. To top it all off, my little team from Scunthorpe just picked up our Directors Choice Award at this year’s award ceremony. I am so proud of what we have achieved and ready to do it all again in Grimsby and Lincoln.

I could not have done any of this with Venatu if it wasn’t for my partner Shaun, my son Klark, and my stepdaughter Lillie-May. These are the people that put up with my working at home, early morning calls, late night emails and all the rest in between. They are also the reason I work so hard and cannot wait to jet off on our holidays later this summer to make more family memories.
