What exactly is the difference between 'Blue' Monday and 'Brew' Monday?
Do you ever spend a day moping around? You open your blinds in the morning and faced with a dark sky and a downpour of rain? All the efforts for the day seem too big to comprehend?
If you’re not aware of the ‘most depressing day of the year’ then you’ve escaped the PR and Marketing which sets the mood for the third Monday in January.
The day has no science behind it and promotes the feeling of depression. Cold, dark nights, Christmas blues and failure of New Years resolutions are thought to be partly responsible for this day. The matter of fact is many people experience this feeling at other points in the year, not just the third Monday in January.
The NHS saw the opportunity to turn this fictional day to a positive campaign, known as ‘Brew Monday’. It was recognised that everyday can be a ‘Blue Monday’ for people, so ‘Brew Monday’ was created. The campaign aims to change the negative brand of the day and spin it. It should be a reminder to reach out to close ones and colleagues for a ‘brew’; to check in on family and friends, lessening the stigma around mental health.
Take ‘Blue Monday’ as an opportunity to reach out to someone you may not originally think to and offer them a cuppa and a conversation as you never know the impact it could have.
At Venatu we have mental health trained individuals on-site to help our staff. We all know the importance of having a nice brew and a catch up.
