Job Overview: We are seeking a responsible and dependable Shunter/Driver to join our transportation team. A Class 1 License is required in the event that a Heavy Goods Vehicle will need redeploying to another local depot or transporting around the yard. The Shunter/Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting goods between company depots, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to all traffic and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have excellent driving skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate company vans to transport goods between designated depots, following established routes and schedules.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van to ensure it is in good working condition and report any mechanical issues or damage to the appropriate personnel.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations while driving, including speed limits, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience driving vans or similar vehicles in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles in various weather conditions and environments.
- Strong understanding of traffic laws, safety regulations, and vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate documentation and timely deliveries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class 1 license
- Prior experience driving vans or trucks for inter-depot transportation or delivery services.
- Knowledge of GPS navigation systems and route planning software.
- Familiarity with warehouse operations and logistics processes.
Working Conditions:
- This position primarily involves driving company vans between depots, with occasional loading and unloading activities.
- May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, and other hazards associated with operating vehicles and working in industrial environments.
